We received some good news at the Chamber recently and are proud to share that we have been awarded with a 3-Star Accreditation by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. This accreditation – which puts us among the top 3 percent of chambers nationwide – further supports the work the entire Chamber team is doing to be our region’s leading advocate on critical business issues that help make San Diego a place where businesses can succeed and grow. We are very proud of this recognition and you should be too, because we can’t do that work without the support of our members. So, thank you!
Earlier this week, Congressman Xavier Becerra stopped in for a Good Government Series program and answered questions from members on a variety of topics ranging from water to transportation, Medicare advantage, trade, and the importance of education. We also hosted the first Coffee and Connections event of 2015 at the Microsoft Store where guests had the opportunity to network while checking out all of the latest tech gadgets.
I would like to thank Chamber members Otay Ranch Towne Center, Sportfishing Association of California, and Quantum Design for having me out to visit recently. I always enjoy having the opportunity to learn about the different companies and organizations that make-up the Chamber. I also joined brokers from Blue Shield to discuss the Chamber Advantage health benefit program and I took part in a panel discussion at the California Water Policy Conference on the various ways water issues impact business.
We know water issues are important to our business community as they came up as the number one issue for the State legislature in our Business Forecast last month. It is an issue that affects our entire region including our neighbors in Mexico and will be one of the key issues discussed during the Chamber’s delegation trip to Mexico City later this month. If you are interested in taking part in the trip I encourage you to register now as today is the last day to take advantage of the early-bird rate and the hotel room block also closes today.
Later this month we have the Congressional Luncheon on April 27 where all five of our Congress members will give an update on their activities in Washington and take part in a Q & A with the audience. If you are a food and wine enthusiast, then you should make plans to join us for the Chamber’s inaugural International Paella and Wine Festival on May 30. This is a new event for the Chamber, and we are looking forward to a great day enjoying the beautiful Bayfront at Embarcadero Marina Park South with good food, wine and, of course, craft beers. I’ll “cheers” to that and hope you have a great weekend!
