Out and About With Jerry

Dear Katasha,

taskforce aimee pic

We have some great events and activities coming up that I want you to be aware of. First, we are presenting our ever-popular "San Diego Illustrated" 2015 Tax & Economy Guide at our Good Government Speaker Series next Wednesday. This guide is a powerful resource for getting an in-depth persepective of San Diego's economic climate. This year, we'll compare San Diego to other California metro areas like the SF Bay Area, Los Angeles and Fresno. A panel of industry experts including County Supervisor Ron Roberts and San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister will also be present to help explain how the key findings affect San Diego residents and business owners.

On August 6th the Chamber is hosting another Business After Five Mixer at Verge Apartments which will - as always - be a great time for mixing and mingling with the San Diego business community. On August 13th the Chamber, along with the Hotel-Motel Association, California Restaurant Association and the San Diego Business Improvent District Council, will also co-host a fundraising event as part of the Supporting America's Finest campaign to support our police officers.

You'll be happy to know that we've extended the deadline to August 14 for the Small Business Awards nominations. Each year, the Chamber recognizes small and micro businesses for their contribution to driving our region's economy forward. If you believe your business to be a leader in innovation, customer service or growth, I encourage you to submit a nomination today.

Earlier this month, I traveled down to Tijuana to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with René Romandía Tamayo, the President of CANACINTRA Tijuana. CANACINTRA vehemently advocates for industry development in the Tijuana region and I look forward to executing our new commitment to work together for the development of our binational economy.

I'm also proud to share that the San Diego Chamber has achieved recognition as a 3-star Chamber of Valor for our commitment to helping veterans find immediate employment. I look forward to our team working even harder next year as we partner with community organizations to develop new projects such as the Veterans Economic Community Initiative and Vets Community Connection.

This month, we also hosted our 69th Annual Flag, General and Senior Officers Ball. Over 300 attendees came out to mingle, dance and honor the sacrifices made by our armed forces. A special thanks goes to Vice Admiral Kenneth Floyd for delivering his inspiring keynote remarks.

Last week, we had an excellent time hanging out with Padres legend, Trevor Hoffman at the Chamber PAC Fundraiser. With your help, we raised over $100,000 to support business-friendly candidates in the upcoming 2016 elections. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this event.

August is going to be an even better month and I hope to see you soon! Until then, have an excellent weekend.
